Happy Halloween!!
Having Halloween on a Monday is quite the trick. I am looking forward to meeting with all of your for conferences this week. I truly enjoying talking with you about the progress your child is making and get to know you a little better. It makes a major difference when we can communicate.
We are going to do a class picture re-take to include all of our students. We had a few missing and have had a new student since then.
Our second math test will likely be next week. This chapter has been great as the students seem to really understand fractions. The grade book is up to date as of Monday morning, so please be sure to check out the grades for your child.
We finished our second Book Club last Friday. This week we are going to work a little more on Inferences and begin our next book club next Monday. I believe the kiddos are enjoying talking and learning with their peers with the books they have chosen.
The end of the quarter is Nov. 11th, which is one week from this Friday. We will talk about grades at conferences.
I think that is all for now!
   See you this week!

Happy Monday!
I hope you were able to enjoy a few days with your kiddos. The 4 day weekend went by way too fast.
We are plugging along in both math and reading. This week in math we are going to continue to work on decimals. The kids say this is much easier than fractions (I must agree!).
In reading we are going to finish up our second book club on Friday. I think they are really enjoying reading these books and talking with their group about the things they have learned or have found interesting. Our focus for the week is Inferencing. This is a tough skill and we will be working on it for a few weeks. The spelling test will be on Friday- make sure to study some at home.
Reminder that conferences are next week-please get the conference slip turned in so I can confirm the scheduled time to meet with you.
The end of the quarter is November 11th, which is coming up quick. Students need to reach their AR goal as it is a part of their reading grade.
Our Fall Party is this Friday, October 28th with the Fall Festival that evening. Students can wear Orange and Black to school on Friday and can wear an appropriate costume to the Fall Festival.
Have a great week!

Hey all!
The weeks are really flying by. I cannot believe it is already the middle of October. The next couple of weeks are going to be pretty busy. This week we will not have school Thursday and Friday. Next Friday, October 28th we will have our Fall Party during the school day. That evening will be the Fall Festival at school. The first week in November will be Parent/Teacher Conferences. I sent Conference Slips home last Friday. Please let me know if the scheduled time works or if we need to meet another time.
We are moving on to Decimals in math for our second unit. We will be introduced to calculators this week to help with the understanding of decimals.
In reading, we are continuing to work on our Book Club. They kids are really getting the hang of having good discussions with their peers about the books they are reading.
We will not have a spelling test this week, however, students will get the new words for next week. Please encourage your child to practice them at home. I do realize they are tough words.
Book Orders are due Monday, October 31st. Students received a coupon where if they spend $10 they will receive a free book with a value up to $5.
As of Friday, all grades have been updated. Feel free to check Skyward for those grades.
I think that is all for this week!  Have a great one!

Happy Monday!
We are off to a fast and furious start! It's hard to believe that we have been in school for over a month!
We will have our first math test this week. I think it will be either Thursday or Friday. We will have a review day before the test as there is a lot of material to cover. Last week, students were introduced to MobyMax, which is a website where students can practice math. It has other subject areas as well, but for right now we are focusing on the math portion. They have username and login that was provided at school.
For reading, our focus this week will be Main Idea. We are moving on to our next Book Club session. Students were able to choose from a group of books which one they would like to read next. They will be reading the same book as 3-4 other classmates and be assigned a role for each day. The kids have done a nice job so far. My plan is to alternate between Book Club and a project throughout the year.
In Social Studies, we started planning for our school-wide election. Our class will be in charge of setting up and running the mock election in our school. This week, we will decide on jobs and what materials may be needed. They are so excited and have many great ideas. Our focus for the election is to learn about the process of becoming President.
Bemidji School District is participating in "One District, One Book." This will be introduced to kids today and will receive a copy of "The World According to Humphrey." Information on the activity will be sent home, and from what I have gathered, it is a family activity-- Have fun with it!!
As always, the spelling words are posted on the website, and a copy has been sent home.
Have a great week!

Hello!
I hope everyone was able to enjoy the weather the last few days. It sure was beautiful!
We are going to finish up Unit 1 in math this week and will have our first test next week. This is a hard unit to start the year off with, but we are making progress. I will be introducing extra math practice to the kids this week. It is an online program where the students will have log in information and lessons assigned. There will be opportunity for them to practice in school, but can have access to do it at home too.
Our first Book Club has started off well! Students are assigned to read 15 pages in school and write a summary of those pages when they are done. If this is not completed in school, it will be homework. Our focus for our Book Club this week is Character Traits and work on small group discussion.
We finished up our 3 Branches of Government last week. The students created posters of a branch and presented to the class. They did an awesome job at this and it is sometimes difficult to work in small groups. We will be learning about the election process and be gearing up for the mock election in the beginning of November.
Just a reminder that students are encouraged to read their AR book and practice their spelling words at home. We do have limited time for both of those activities in school, but for students to be successful they should find time to do it at home as well. Make sure to check out the class website for the "Helpful Websites" for fun spelling activities and extra math help.
Thank you for all your help in making the kiddos successful!
